  1. We had both of our heat pumps replaced in July of 2020. The contractor replaced both of the old thermostats with Honeywell T6 Pro wifi thermostats. One of the was replaced under warranty almost a year later. No problem, things happen…
    Since then, I have had to purchase and install three more of these thermostats. All four failed the same way, the display went dark and the thermostat no longer controlled the heat pump. The Residio app reported the unit was offline. To check the wiring, power and HVAC control circuit, I swapped the defective unit with the working thermostat from the other system. The good thermostat worked in both locations and the defective one did not. A youtube video shows the cause of this malfunction to be the 3.3 volt DC to DC converter and the diode at the input. Replacing the components fixed the T6 Pro in the video. Clearly a flawed design that hasn’t been addressed by Honeywell over the years. The last one failed two days before our vacation. Since there was not time enough to replace our upstairs thermostat with something more reliable, I bought a new one for $170.00. Plugged it in and programmed it. When this happens again. I won’t replace it with a Honeywell product.
